Classroom

With just a little over 2 weeks left until school starts my classroom is starting to come to life.  At least I hope it is since I've been obsessed dedicated to planning and creating it over last 6 weeks.  I ended up going with a bee theme and I am so glad I did.  I know the students will enjoy the cheery environment and I will enjoy teaching them about the unique work ethic bees have and all they're able to accomplish by working together as a team.  Here's a preview of the [almost] finished product.

My clean slate.
Let the decorating begin.

The desk was a bit small. I added a students desk on the end, adjusted the height, and covered it with wrapping paper I found at If It's Paper. To polish off the trimmed edges I used ABC ribbon from Michael's crafts and hot glued it onto the wrapping paper.

I'm happy with the end result. It hides the trashcan under the desk and creates a larger space for files and desktop.

The nameplate is finished.

A few little crafts I completed this summer.  The lampshade originally was white and I used spray adhesive and covered it with this fabric from Hancock Fabrics.  Then added a polka dot ribbon. The beehive pencil holder started as a white vase that I used spray adhesive to cover with burlap scarpbook paper.  Both were easy and cheap!

The Welcome board took shape as I went. The Welcome banner is made from polka dot postcards that I stenciled each letter on with a marker and a black gingham ribbon. Each bee will have a students name on it. I'm thinking of adding "It's great to BEE in second grade!".

The Goodwill stool that I covered with fabric and spray painted black.

This is our "BEEday Hive" to mark down everyone's birthdays. I got the idea for this setup from a greeting card I saw online somewhere. I traced the hexagon shape from a hexagon mirror and cut out and laminated each honeycomb. I love how it turned out!

Student work display area.

Our Science board and center.
Still uncertain what the honeypot will be used for but possibly my favorite piece.

Our morning meeting area will consist of a lot of calendar work and a daily buzzword.

The reading nook.  I love this corner! I found this rug at IKEA and it's perfect! It even matched the dollar store wrapping paper I lined to bookshelf with.

Can you spy my flying bees?  I made them out of toilet paper rolls. I also learned how to whip up some tissue paper flowers during this process.

The long tables will not be there once school starts.

Thanks for checking out my room! I had so much fun creating and organizing it. I can't wait to meet my kiddos and get the year started. I have an amazing support team and feel so blessed to be at PCA this year.  I will post more once it is completely finished.
